Miles Today: 5.4
Miles This Year: 1552.5
Goal for the year: 1000 (so there...in your face!)
I am sure that everyone remembers where they were when America was attacked on September 11, 2001.
I was in Nashville, getting dressed for a job interview with the Today Show on in the background.
My job interview was at the Nashville Airport, with Southwest Airlines. I was interviewing for a Flight Attendant position. Even with all of the craziness going on, I didn't think I should miss the interview (plus, I had no idea the every airport in America would be on "lockdown" like they were). So, Ben took me to the airport and dropped me off. I went inside and within 15 minutes, the first tower collapsed and the airport shut down. The gates were locked and everyone was stuck inside. Because they had grounded every plane in the country, there were hundreds of pilots and stewardesses and tons of people everywhere. All of them in desperation to get someone on a phone to let them know that they were on the ground and safe. It was total chaos. And dumb ole me was just walking around looking for the interview room...
Needless to say, the job market in the airline industry was also grounded for a while after those events. I did get a very nice letter from Southwest thanking me for what they called a "glowing" interview. All I remember about it was that I actually hugged the man and woman interviewing me and we cried. I wouldn't call that "glowing," but under the circumstances...
Thank you to everyone who serves our country day in and day out. It is a privilege to live in such a grand country with such great pride. You are true heroes.
We will never forget.
